I'm excited to be playing the Mint with these killer acts. I have done a few shows with Tumbledown and it's always a rowdy good time! Drag the River write great songs and include members of ALL (who incidentally, I opened for in High School!). Hope to see you there.

I will be playing one of my favorite LA venues, the York in Highland Park. Love this place!
Free show and lots of great food and bevvies.
It was an incredible pleasure opening for Mike Peters (The Alarm) last night @ The El Rey. At the end of Mike's set he invited Cy Curnin from the Fixx, Billy Duffy from the Cult, Slim Jim Phantom, myself and the singer of Gene Loves Jezebel out and we all did a version of Willie Nile's "One Guitar". Mike was incredible last night. Chill inducing. I am so looking forward to our show together in SF on Wed.
Tomorrow is the beginning of my Tuesday Night Residency at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach. I will be playing at 6 PM every week all month. I love this venue.
Looking forward to my upcoming show with my friend and touring partner Adam Bones.
Also playing is the ultra heavy three-piece Goldsboro, featuring
Johnny Lonely, Kevin Roentgen and "Ghost Town Directory" drummer Chris Cano!
I am so honored to be playing two shows with Mike Peters of the Alarm.
I have been a fan of the band forever and cannot wait. These are two

DESCRIPTION
Ari Shine is quickly becoming the singer-songwriter to watch in 2011. He plays rootsy rock with an eye for lyrical detail and an ear for classic pop song-craft. The heartfelt melodies and unfiltered lyrics he delivers retain the same unabashed hooks and energy whether in solo acoustic performance or with full band backing.
Adrienne Pierce finds a way to sing about ugly things in the most beautiful way.” She is “the go-to girl for a smart shot of catchy-meets-cutting tracks for thoughtful listeners”. Adrienne’s songs have been heard on many shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, and Veronica Mars.
Buzzbands LA has posted this awesome writeup about Ghost Town
Directory and is giving away "It's A Go" for download!
by on AUGUST 4, 2011
You don’t need an instruction manual to get hooked on the hooky power-pop of Ari Shine — ever since his power chords tied us in knots way back in 2007, Shine has been growing new sounds from the roots of classic rock songwriting. His latest album “Ghost Town Directory,” made with producer Noah Shain (As Tall As Lions, the Secret Handshake, among others) and out on Beverly Martel, embraces the exuberance and naivete of youth, the strange machinations of relationships and the steely power of love. It’s almost a shame that Shine keeps his engine idling in the ’70s, but fans of latter-day pop-rockers such as Matthew Sweet and Brendan Benson will find plenty of ear candy here. Bust out the bell-bottoms.

Thanks to the Vancouver Province for featuring our Railway Club show tonight!
A night of rootsy sounds from Canada and all over, the all over being singer-guitarist Ari Shine who was born in Pennsylvania but grew up splitting his time between northern California and Israel, where he learned to play guitar. Vancouver’s Sarah Wheeler has had past collaborations with the New Pornographers and their circle, but her latest solo album Out of the Woodwork summarizes 20 years of her own creative thought, which started as a child with her jazz musician grandfather. Kent McAlister’s songs meld traditional country sounds with rock and jazz.

Singer/Songwriter
Since the age of 15, Ari Shine has been working to perfect his craft, incorporating his love of late 70s rock and pop into his own contemporary tunes. In addition to writing his own material, he co-writes for numerous other bands and artists (The Secret Handshake, Josie Cotton, Gaby Moreno to name a few). When he isn’t writing and recording, he is out on the road taking his songs to the people. He’s opened for Rhett Miller, Redd Kross, Silversun Pickups, the Donnas, and many others. Last summer Shine was selected to support Chris Shiflett of theFoo Fighters on his entire US/Canadian tour.
Shine’s latest record, “Ghost Town Directory” bristles with singer/songwriter spirit yet has a slick radio-friendly gloss provided by producer Noah Shain (As Tall As Lions, Me Talk Prettyand The Secret Handshake). The introductory track is a perfect example of how this team dresses up the retro melodies in modern rock clothes. “All I’ve Got Is Love” is a blistering rocker sizzling with a crunchy riff and harmonies dripping with syrup – not too far astray fromCollective Soul. The driving “Against The Night” enshrouds Bob Seger lyrics with the sort of punchy guitars that lifted the Goo Goo Dolls into superstardom. Other highlights include “Refuge In You” and the Bay City Rollers sounding “Better Anyday”. On the softer side, Shineshows off his skills for balladry on the pleasant “Here With Me” and “Shine”. The bonus track, “Ship In A Bottle”, for which there is a video below, is a sparse acoustic tune not representative of the majority of high energy, more accessible tunes on this record.
“Ghost Town Directory” is a terrific release from start to finish. Shine is an extremely promising talent that wraps his earnest, often inspirational lyrics in melodies that feature plenty of affable harmonies and interesting chord changes.
iPOD-worthy: 1, 2, 4, 7, 9, 10

When you think of one-person-band pop rock acts, names like Todd Rundgren, Adam Schmitt or Brendan Benson come to mind. They’re all superlative artists, mind you, but all of them tend to emphasize the pop half of the equation. On Ghost Town Directory, Ari Shine also prefers to go it nearly alone, with only drummer Chris Cano for company. While he certainly displays a keen melodic sense, Shine leans more towards a rootsy rock & roll vibe, a la icons like the Faces or the Rolling Stones. It’s a style that suits his grainy voice perfectly, and gives hot tunes like “One Silver Morning,” “All I’ve Got is Love” and “It’s a Go” a classic, gritty edge. Shine doesn’t purely work this groove – he’s smart enough to vary the program with country (“Miss Nina”), lush balladry (“Here With Me”), a bopping tune (“Better Anyday”) so upbeat it could be covered by Miley Cyrus and straight power pop (“Refuge in You”). Regardless of stylistic permutation, though, Shine’s strong songcraft drives the tunes home with ease. Few recent records are as instantly appealing as Ghost Town Directory, or as capable of translating that initial buzz into lasting pleasure.
Thanks guys!

Power pop is like beer, there are thousands of varieties all of which follow the same basic recipe. It’s very much part of the everyday, and at the right time it can be the most singularly refreshing choice. Few would make a case to elevate power pop, it’s a genre that maintains its own equilibrium. Shine is very much like a refreshing Spanish lager.
In fact he reminds me very much of the Spanish band Lori Meyers, the voice is similar and the concentration on hooks and harmonies ensures that the songs always hit the right spot whether it is the medium pace mode of the bright ‘Refuge in You’ the gentle reflections of ‘Simple’ or the rockier tones of ‘Against the Night’.
When everything clicks into place Shine can compete at the top of the power pop league, ‘It’s A Go’ is the sort of thing that you might play for someone if they asked you to describe power pop. If summer ever arrives and you need some musical refreshment, you know who to call.
No Depression has posted this review of Ghost Town Directory. I love this magazine which makes it extra exciting!
Ghost Town Directory
(Beverly Martel)
Ari Shine may be a relative rookie in terms of carving out a career, but even after only two albums, it’s already obvious he’s a knowing power pop practitioner. Consequently, Ghost Town Directory is the kind of album any veteran artist would likely be thrilled to call his or her own. Indeed, from the unabashed exuberance of songs like “All I’ve Got Is Love” to the sophisticated mix of melody and mayhem embraced on “Here With Me,” Shine shines and puts many artists boasting a far lengthier trajectory on notice that they face formidable competition. Here’s an up and comer who’s got his groove, both literally and figuratively, and even a first listen is all it takes to convince. Ghost Town Directory not only begs repeated returns, but gets better and more engaging every single time.
New City Chicago just published a nice article previewing my show at Schubas next Wed. Here is the link:
I'm playing the Hideout in Toronto at 9:30. TO's Music Snob has this to say about the show:
Ari Shine
For those who like: Tom Petty
This LA-based musician plays straight-forward rock n' roll, something we all need a dose of every once in a while. You can catch him at The Hideout in Toronto on May 20th.
The Deli has run this nice piece on the "Ship In A Bottle" video.
Thanks for including me in last month's LA artist poll as well!
Thanks guys!
Ari Shine seems to be on a direct path to success. Unlike other up-and-coming artists, Shine makes instantly accessible pop music that could easily be appreciated and understood by the masses. But considering that, the most surprising thing is...that his songs actually have substance and style. In some ways, Ari's tunes remind us of stuff The Kinks were recording in the 1980s. The songs onGhost Town Directly are slick and polished and feature immediately memorable melodies and lyrics. No difficult artsy stuff here, these tunes are shot straight from the hip. At the center of the tunes are Ari's confident yet never oversung vocals. This guy's got a smooth voice that is a perfect fit for modern pop rock. Folks into mid-tempo 1970s and 1980s FM radio pop/rock will find a lot to love here. Ten catchy cuts including "All I've Got Is Love," "Here With Me," "Miss Nina," and "Simple."
This awesome blog offers a gracious, lengthy review of my sophomore album 'Ghost Town Directory.' Fistful writes that Shine "impresses" on the album and overall, 'Ghost Town Directory' offers listeners a unqiue blend of tracks. After a track-by-track review of the album, Fistful is confident in the fact that, "While Shine briefly revels in the sounds of rock stalwarts from two decades ago, his second full length record is an enjoyable album of upbeat power pop-rock."
'Ghost Town Directory' is available now through Beverly Martel. I play THIS SATURDAY, April 30th, with Mindy Smith at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles.
FISTFUL OF WORDS GHOST TOWN DIRECTORY REVIEW
I am very excited to be playing the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles with Mindy Smith this Sat. night.
She is truly and amazing singer and writer. This should be a great night.

The people at the fine station Mevio have put "Ship In A Bottle" into rotation!
Ari Shine has racked up plenty of miles on the road, opening for artists like Rhett Miller, John Doe, Hugh Cornwell of the Stranglers, Redd Kross, Silversun Pickups, the Donnas, Liam Finn and many others. Ari's new album is a product of this experience. "All I've Got Is Love" is polished single that incorporates a a strong melody line with power chords aplenty... the slow building "Here With Me" as he clearly states "...Everything I need is here with me." Another standout here is the thrilling "One Silver Morning" with it's energetic beat akin to Golden Earring's "Radar Love." But here it's updated with Shine's earthy vocals and swirling guitar riffs.

This is a killer review of the new album. Very kind!
Ari Shine is an American singer songwriter, born in Pennsylvania but living in Los Angeles, that looks like Devendra Banhart yet sounds like Bon Jovi. His music is very California; classic pop rock with lots of guitars and solos that could fit a Guns And Roses song, but also with strong vocals and a much more modern pop-culture approach. You know, like Jetbut without pretending to be British.
Ari spent most of his last year touring as a support act for Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters, and decided to start writing the songs for his new record on his acoustic guitar, and he described the process as "Not geared towards any specific genre, just songs that worked by themselves without outside adornment." This idea was well executed and his second record Ghost Town Directory due to be released on March 15th, is already receiving more...
I will be doing a phone interview on Fearless Radio on Tuesday, February 1st at 5 pm.
A very kind review of Ghost Town Directory on the very groovy
Officially A Yuppie blog appears below:
Ari Shine –Ghost Town Directory
With the recent autobiography Life by Keith Richards, Richards praises rock and roll roots in skiffle rock, I hope Keef gets a copy of Ari Shine’s Ghost Town Directory for the fact that skiffle rock is back and with Ari, it looks like it will be here to stay. Ari Shrine is a young singer – songwriter using old methods of early rock and roll and does it so well. A very slick and pleasurable album that shows that you should keep Ari on your radar.
FINAL GRADE: B+
